SOFTER was born out of a longing for a community and learning space where we could see ourselves and our values reflected. Our community is committed to rethink the existing structures and hierarchies in digital culture. We are exploring technology and digital media as a playground for creation, imagination and collaboration.
What we do
We gather our growing community at our recurring conference, Softer Digital Futures, to explore and celebrate new directions for digital futures through talks, panels, workshops, shared meals, art exhibitions, and performances. Currently Softer Digital Futures takes place in Copenhagen and London with new locations coming soon.
SOFTER Learning is an upcoming online learning platform. Stay tuned for more info and get in touch if you are curious.
SOFTER Lab is an IRL learning space for art and technology in the heart of Copenhagen. The Lab is a work-in-progress space for testing and facilitating learning formats that combine softer aesthetics and teaching methods with a strong sense of community.
SOFTER residencies is a program for artists, designers, thinkers and educators to explore, research, teach and create softer digital futures, taking place at our SOFTER Lab and online. We are currently testing three different residency formats:
Artist in Residence
A space for digital artists to explore their own projects within the SOFTER universe. Artists and designers can work towards exhibiting their works at SOFTER events or other relevant art exhibitions.
Instructor in Residence
A program for tutors, designers, developers and artists who wish to dive into teaching and tutorial production.
Project-based Residency
Residents are invited to work on a predefined project brief either targeted towards artistic projects or educational projects.
SOFTER Satellites is a global coalition of collaborators who support the mission by facilitating SOFTER learning experiences in their local contexts.
London
SOFTER London is founded and run by Rachel Barrie and Christie Morgan since 2023.

What we focus on
Hardware provides hands-on learning in the physical aspects of technology exploring computer systems, 3D printing, electronics, light installation etc,, while gaining practical skills that empower learners to build and experiment with hardware and digital tools.
Software focuses on learning digital creativity and coding skills. From 3D design and editing to web development and AI, learners gain the technical know-how to create engaging content, develop websites, and explore the potential of artificial intelligence in both practical and creative fields.
Worldware encourages critical thinking about the broader impact of technology. It explores how tech shapes society, the digital industries and our everyday lives by focusing on digital ethics, work-life and self-development, preparing learners to navigate and shape digital and technological futures.
