A protected offline zone, where devices are invited to be handed in or turned off. Enter the immersive space and be guided by performance artist Ellen Gilbert, wearing an EMF protection suit. Be prepared to participate in an immersive performance including radical acts of boredom to reclaim your attention, your well-being and your imagination in the age of AI and distraction.

We don’t need more tech to solve our tech issues. We need to return inwards, turn off and be present. To be bored is a radical act of activism against surveillance capitalism, against AI, against algorithmic manipulation.

We live in the age of distraction, where our attention is constantly fragmented, where our lives are lived across platforms, where we must be manipulated by algorithms and adverts to be able to keep in touch with friends and communities.

The most powerful thing we possess is our power to direct our attention, because what we focus on every day shapes who we are, what we do and who we become.

Now, in the age of AI, we not only have the ability to eliminate boredom through social media, we have access to a technology that solves our “problems” or comes up with ideas when we feel stuck.

Because our brains are so cognitively overloaded by constant information, our capacity for sustained attention, reflection and deeper thinking can become compromised. Our ability to come up with ideas also needs boredom, idleness and daydreaming. Enter AI, and we risk outsourcing even those moments when we feel stuck, moments that might otherwise give us space to imagine, make connections and trust in our own human abilities.

Our ability to rest and restore, and to be alone with our own thoughts. As human rights activist Susie Algre would say “the freedom to think” is a fundamental human right in the digital age.

Come prepared for radical boredom, meditation, performance and the tools you need to reclaim your attention, focus and imagination. Cultivate offline spaces within your life, to return to your true self.

Digital intermittent fasting. Reclaiming your attention isn’t about rejecting technology; it’s understanding the psychology behind your digital habits, your environment, and reclaiming your offline spaces as sacred acts against capitalist technologist tyrants.

To slow down and breathe, to be, to be just you, to just be present.
